Nina Martin’s ReWire: Dancing States— a system that motivates dance from a Kinetic Body State and from a Neurological (Neuro) Brain State. The Kinetic State brings us to awareness of the body’s emergent desires for movement and the Neuro State allows us to dance the brain and bypass “Mind” as much as possible. Rewiring the brain and the body to work consciously, with clarity, speed and precision. Accessing lower brain responses, more reflexive responses, and working from this level develops a THINKING DANCER. ReWire develops a versatile and conscious improviser. Martin says of this work: “We are attempting to dance the brain, which is impossible to achieve because it is faster than we can realize, but we make a noble effort in our research to accomplish this great task.”
Scates has studied, performed, taught and researched with Lower Left Performance Collective since 2006. Lower Left artists live and work in Texas, New York and Berlin, Germany. The Collective teaches and performs internationally and has held the March 2 Marfa Creative Research Lab in Marfa, Texas since 2006. Leslie has studied extensively with Dr. Nina Martin, who is the creator and originator of ReWire: Dancing States technique.
